PETER CROUCH TRIBUTE SMASHES ROBOTIC DANCING WORLD RECORD
351 people have smashed the offical Guinness World Record for mass robot dancing. The record-breaking robotic dancing took place earlier today at the University of Melbourne in Australia - breaking the previous record of 279 people set by Britain's own University of Kent. The dancers moved in a funkily mechanical fasion for over five minutes, to such classic robot-dance tracks as the Beastie Boys' Intergalactic. The record was smashed on the second attempt, after the first failed when too many people sat out - prompting a last-minute search for more dancers by the organisers.
The robotic macarena was organised by Robogals, a non-profit group of young engineering undergraduates who teach robotics to schoolgirls to lift the profile of science in schools. Which is excellent. As you can see from these pictures, some people went to greater lengths than others to get into character as robots.
And as you can see from the video below, some people didn't quite get the idea of robotic dancing at all. Yes, blonde dude in the blue tracksuit jumping around and waving your arms, we're looking at you.

Lady GaGa has been slammed by a suicide prevention interest group, who claim her performance of Paparazzi at Sunday night's MTV VMAs sent out an "irresponsible" message. In the live act, Lady GaGa was seen to "stab" herself in the chest and stagger across the stage as fake bloody pumped out all over her. She later dangled from a rope apparently lifeless. The group PAPYRUS issued a statement saying, "This act is not cool – sensationalising and romanticising suicide is irresponsible. Celebrities, who are often idolised by young people, need to be more aware of the impact that such acts can have on vulnerable young people." Do YOU think GaGa went a bit FarFar by spirting fake blood all over herself, or should she be allowed to perform her "art installations" without fear of criticism?

POSSIBLE EXPLANATIONS
1) Split screens
Explanation: While the viewer's attention was held by Brown's nervous patter as the balls were drawn, the producers cut to a pre-recorded shot of the left side of the screen. An unseen assistant hastily printed the numbers onto the prediction balls, before the split screen was removed and Brown walked over to reveal his "success".
The video shows how it is possible to use split screen technology to give the impression that the Lottery balls are in the live shot. In fact, they are a static image. The most popular theory about Brown's Channel 4 show is that the left hand side of the screen, which showed the numbered balls lined up in a row, was a frozen image. In reality, an assistant was putting the balls in place during the 30-second delay between them being drawn on the BBC and Brown revealing his numbers. The entire screen only became live at the moment Brown walked towards the balls, according to this theory.Viewers have been poring of video of Brown's trick, looking for the 'join'. The unusually shaky camera work could have served to disguise the effect. The use of split screen digital trickery could leave viewers feeling somewhat cheated. Brown has promised to reveal the secret in a special programme on Channel 4 tonight. However, not all of his tricks are what they seem.In 2003, Brown staged a live televised game of Russian roulette in which he fired a gun at his temple. He insisted: "It's a real gun, it's a real bullet." Embarrassingly for him, police later announced that the stunt was a fake and the gun contained only blanks.

In the event he got lucky, and one of his pre-recorded combinations was drawn.

Explanation: The prediction balls were facing away from the screen while the results were being announced. Could they have been painted with the winning numbers with some kind of long-distance but highly accurate spray gun? Plausible, but it would take considerable technical wizardry to pull off without the viewer noticing.
4) Projection
Similar to the spray paint theory, but with a projector behind the camera throwing the numbers onto the prediction balls. But the numbers move as you would would expect them to as Brown touches the balls with his finger, so the projection technology would have to be highly complex.
5) Power of suggestion
In a previous show, Brown convinced bookmakers to pay out on losing bets by sheer power of suggestion – approaching the cashiers with his betting slip and telling them he had won. An attractive psychological explanation, but could he have really hoodwinked an entire nation? And continue to hoodwink us no matter how many times we watch the trick on YouTube?

Footage of the Berlin TV tower, one of the most recognisable buildings in Germany, being fired into space in an audacious Nasa "theft" has become a web hit.
The 1,200ft tower, which bears a striking resemblance to a rocket, engulfs the centre of the city with smoke as it rises from the Berlin skyline. The impressive launch footage was created from a combination of genuine Nasa audio recordings, library images of the tower and the computer trickery of a young animator. Fabian Tischer, 28, grew up just a few miles from the telecommunications tower and produced the clip to realise his childhood fantasy of watching the iconic building lift off into space. "As a child, I used to think the TV tower in the centre of the former capital of East Germany was a rocket. And now, with my technical possibilities, I have transformed it into that,". He playfully titled his creation Nasa steals Berlin TV tower to capture the attention of viewers on YouTube and Video, the video-sharing websites where it was posted. The Berlin TV tower has become one of the symbols of Berlin since it was erected 40 years ago, but its rocket-like design has not earned universal popularity. It is occasionally referred to as the "Telespargel", or TV asparagus. Mr Tischer says that he has been "floored" with the response to his video, which he produced in part to generate buzz about his freelance animation and computer graphics work. "There have been several newspaper-articles, requests of film festivals and thousands of clicks on YouTube and Vimeo: That impressed me so much," he said.
This cat has come up with a unique way to slow down the jet of a water tap – stick his head in it. Woody tries drinking straight from the fierce stream but soon opts for his preferred method. He dunks his head straight under the water and then simply laps up the drops falling off his nose.

Life without record-breaking fingernails
A US great-grandmother says losing her 34-inch fingernails in a car crash has been the most dramatic event of her life. Record-breaking Lee Redmond, 68, of Salt Lake City, Utah, had been growing her nails for 30 years at the time of the accident in February, reports Sky News. Speaking publicly for the first time since the crash, she said: "Losing my fingernails has been the most dramatic thing that's happened in my life. "The thing that bothered me with losing the fingernails was that it becomes your identity and I felt like I'd lost part of that." Ms Redmond now has 11.5cm (4.5in) of nails and said she has no intention of growing them back to their full former glory. "People ask if I'm going to grow them again and I say, no, it was a one time thing," she said. "It took me 30 years to grow them and to get them to that length and they became the world record, and I probably won't live for 30 more years. "I always did everything with them, but now it's so much easier to do things. The weight is so different. In fact my hands seem to fly with the weight gone."

PERVY POLISH YETI
A teenager has added fresh rumour to the yeti debate after claiming the beast spied on her in her bikini as she paddled in a river. Justyna Folger was having a dip during a camping trip when a shadowy creature appeared on the opposite bank. 'At first I thought it was a bear but it appeared to be stooping and then it raised itself on to two legs and ran off. I couldn't believe it,' said Miss Folger, 19. The incident was caught on camera by her boyfriend Tadeusz Serafinowski. Yeti-hunters are already flocking to the site in the Tatra mountains in Poland after another sighting last week. Walker Piotr Kowalski, 27, filmed a yeti-like creature emerging from a mountain path. Park rangers are on alert and hunting for the mysterious beast. WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT IN CLONAKILTY
This year’s festival will see an attempt at breaking the World Record for Largest Ensemble Guitar Performance! This will take place in Clonakilty on Saturday the 19th of September and will see over 2000 people attempting to play the same song, at the same time, together, on that majestic instrument we call the guitar!(not the same guitar obviously!) So this is a call to all you closet guitarists, all you two chord heroes, all you keepers and guardians of budding musicians.
